Close Rotarian ties already exist with China and Spain, Tunisia, Thailand and many other countries around the globe. Now a new Switzerland-Belgium-Luxembourg country committee is to be set up.

The ball was set rolling by PDG Rémy Mannès from Belgium and Rot. Roger Hartmann from Luxembourg. They approached PDG Hansruedi Moser, who coordinates the Rotarian country committees for Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Moser is supported by Assistant Governor Jean-François Richter.

A first meeting of the participants at the end of August in the beautiful Chalet Suisse above Lausanne turned out to be promising. The foundation stone has been laid, now they are looking for comrades-in-arms. No matter whether they have a connection to one of the countries mentioned or are simply interested in Belgium or Luxembourg: All Rotarians are welcome. You are welcome to contact Rémy Mannès (remymannes@yahoo.fr), Roger Hartmann (r.hartmann@efpa.lu) or Jean-François Richter (richterjf@gmail.com).

What are country committees?

Intercountry Committees date back to the early 1930s when Rotarians from Germany and France organised a petit comité to promote mutual understanding between Rotarians from these two countries. The idea caught on. By 1937, there were nearly 30 committees in Europe, even when the war prevented them from working.

The Franco-German country committee was renewed in 1950 and many others followed. Since then, many more country committees have been formed to promote international understanding, improve relations between regions historically affected by conflict, and bridge cultural, linguistic and geographical differences. Country Committees provide opportunities for friendship and service projects between clubs and districts in two countries.
