Rotary Institute I Basel I 4 to 6 November 2022
Rotary: a success story
As members of the Rotary family, we can rejoice in our success story: polio has almost been eradicated, we run one of the largest youth exchange programmes in the world, our Foundation is one of the largest charities, and our achievements in priority areas are remarkable. In short, we have helped make life better around the world today than it was 50 years ago.
How do we intend to continue this success story?
Rotary is relevant when we find the right answers to the biggest questions and challenges facing our society. At the Rotary Institute in Basel, we come together to share thoughts and ideas in order to identify the answers we need as well as actions. Specifically, we address the following questions:
How do we promote peace?
Together with Rotaractors and Peace Fellows, we identify opportunities for action in the field of peace. We talk to people affected by the conflict in Ukraine, the Balkans and other conflict regions.
How do we contribute to sustainable population development?
High birth rates, maternal and child mortality, especially in the sub-Saharan zone, are a major challenge. In Basel, we get first-hand information, for example, about the Programs of Scales project in Nigeria, the WHO's perspective and the opportunities offered by various measures, from midwifery training, transport and telemedicine.
How can we protect our environment?
Projects to reduce plastic waste in the world's oceans and material management will be presented. Climate protection measures through sustainable energy projects are also a topic, as are measures for the protection of species.
And how should Rotary develop to take advantage of these opportunities?
Rotary and Rotaract members develop cornerstones for the future development of our organisation under the leadership of Holger Knaack. Rotary Vice-President Nicki Scott explains the opportunities that open up for us with the regionalisation of our organisation. A project exchange is open to all and helps us to network and make an impact.
